Being a new company is hard. Even harder when you are young enough to be starting from nothing. We wanted to create a brand with some gravitas, an identity that displayed a proficiency in the work, and an established feel to help gain the trust of prospective clients that could be dissuaded from working with youthful founders. It also had to be approachable enough to all members of the classical music world which includes students and recent graduates.
The Mill was founded in Beehive Mill in Manchester's Northern Quarter. The building has a remarkable history. From being the first building in Manchester to use iron struts in it's roof as resistance against fire, to being the location of Sankey's club in the basement. The clients chose to call their company "The Mill" because of their location and I based the branding around the older history of the building. The structural logo is influenced by the iron roof struts.
Mill Media is a specialist media production company for classical musicians. We produce video media, audio recordings, photography and websites to help classical musicians develop their career.
Mill Media, originally named Mill Productions, was founded by two musicians Ben Sharpe and David Williamson studying at the Royal Northern College of Music and has now developed into a small team of creatives with a diverse set of skills. James Cardell-Oliver joined Mill in 2017 bringing a wealth of experience in digital marketing, as well as a life-long love of all classical music.
Moving forward, Mill Media is regularly working with world-class musicians and branching out into documentary work and CD recordings with international record labels.
