Flautist Felix Niel and pianist Carla Fernandez-Boix came to us wanting a promotional video that showed them as skilled musicians but also as real human beings. They want to break down barriers and allow more people to enjoy classical music. After developing a number of different concepts for the project, we settled on a main documentary and 3 smaller promotional videos. Through our project we spent 8 intense days in Oslo, filming and recording everything as they rehearsed and recorded their music. They also talked to us about their views on classical music and the wider community.
My goal was to help them express their humanity, applying the creative process to look at new ways to get closer to their audience. The ideas were wide and varied; from concerts in the smallest venues we could find, to having a Pyjama party gig and live twitter conversation. We decided to incorporate a few ideas into a longer film, allowing us to have in-depth interviews and behind the scenes footage to help them show their true selves.
Working with the client to develop a brief, seeking creative options for what we could do as a film project. Deciding on a plan for the shoot, including shot lists, interview questions and time management.
8 days of intense filming between Oslo and Reinsvoll. Interviews, performances, and behind the scenes.
Taking the shot footage and shaping it into the longer documentary and promotional material.
